What is CBD and THC?

CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of marijuana or it can be manufactured in a lab. It, however, does not make you “high”. It does have similar benefits to marijuana. It could potentially ease anxiety, help with insomnia. It can potentially help to lower pain and inflammation.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a psychoactive constituent of cannabis. This means that it can make you experience a “high”. In the body, there are two types of cannabinoid receptors. THC binds with the receptors in the brain that control mood and pain. For this reason, THC makes most people feel euphoric or gives them that “high” feeling. As with CBD, THC also can help to relieve anxiety, insomnia and pain.

Entourage effect (a well-supported theory)

People take CBD and THC in a variety of ways. They can be consumed separately or together.

Some people feel that taking them together is more effective than taking CBD or THC alone. This is due to the interaction between terpenes and phytocannabinoids called the “entourage effect.” In other words, it is the theory of all the compounds in cannabis working together. When taken together, they produce a better effect than when taken alone.

Why take them together?

Some people take CBD with THC to help reduce the unwanted effects of THC. Some of these side effects include: anxiety, hunger, sedation and paranoia. It may not work the same for everyone, as everyone has a different reaction and/or experience when using cannabis.
